Well, when I accepted an invite to muck around on Vox the other week, I wasn't expecting it to lead to the "release" of the first "new" m-orchestra material for over a year - but here we are. The system has an audio upload facility, and I wanted to try it out for my review of Vox over on currybetdotnet, and so what better way to do it than to put some new tracks onto the interweb?
I've uploaded three tracks: "Blood For Oil (Go Yankee Go)", "I Remix Myself" and "We Were So Futuristic".
They make up what I've called the "Salvage EP"
It is called 'Salvage' with good reason. About a week before I left the UK last December, I decommissioned my old PC (or threw it out in an eco-unfriendly fashion with the potential that somebody could retrieve it, boot it up, and steal my financial and online identity - delete as you feel is more likely when you are trying to get rid of everything you can't carry in a backpack). Before I did so in one night I had to finally and quickly mix down several unfinished m-orchestra tracks - and these are three of the tracks that I mixed down.
It is actually the second time "I Remix Myself" has been salvaged, since it is based on an original track called "I Lie To Myself" that I used to perform when m-orchestra was just me and a guitar. In fact there is still a little bit of guitar in there somewhere.
Of course as a pedant I wasn't sure what to do with the metadata. I mean, 2006 is the first time they became available. But 2005 was when they were finally mixed down. And they were actually recorded in 2002/3.
*Sigh*
You don't get these kind of existential dilemmas with proper musicians with proper recording contracts do you - they just get to put stuff out.
So, I'm trying out Vox. And I linked it to my Flickr and Typepad accounts - and said it could cross-post to Typepad.
So, if you are reading this on 'A lemon tree of our own', my apologies - it is kind of a test post, and I wondered if this different system - Vox - would actually publish to Lemon Tree.
And if you are reading it on Vox - then hello - how did you find me ;-)
So I got invited to try out Vox, and thought I would. So this is my first post from Chania where I live, sitting by the harbour, with the battery on my laptop rapidly expiring.
